SOLITUDE AND THE ENCOUNTER: A one day online event organised by the MSc Creative Arts and Mental Health: Prof Femi Oyebode - Solitude and inner life.
I will speak about Fernando Pessoa, a Portuguese poet who wrote in several heteronyms, rather than pseudonyms. His poetry illustrates the nature of subjective experience and the influence or lack of it of social contact on self-worth, sense of fragility, and being. His poetry is even more relevant given the world we are living through.
Femi is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham, a poet and a pioneer in the use of literature to educate doctors about mental health.
