Comet McNaught, C/2006 P1 was discovered by astronomer Robert McNaught in August 2006. Comet McNaught reached perhelion, closest approach to our sun, on January 12, 2007. Approximate distance during perihelion: 25.5 million kilometers or 0.171 AU. Due to the eccentric hyperbolic trajectory of this comet, some scientists believe Comet McNaught C/2006 P1 will never again return to our solar system. At the very least, remnants from Comet McNaught attribute to our solar system today.
