Although I enjoyed visiting Mount Vernon and Bellingham, the main purpose of my trip was to visit the San Juan Islands, an archipelago of islands in Washington, in the Salish Sea. (Or, less accurately but more easily, in the Puget Sound). The San Juan Islands, which are also San Juan County, are reachable only by sea or air. This trip shows how I went to Anacortes by bus and then took a ferry that first docked at Lopez Island, and then went to Friday Harbor. Friday Harbor is the only incorporated town in the San Juans, with a (permanent) population of around 2800 people.
Although for some people, ferry rides might be a pedestrian part of life, it was very interesting for me! I might have included too much detail for some people, and not enough for others. This was also my first visit to a true, unbridged island since 2018, when I went to Chiloé. (An archipelago that has a lot in common with the San Juans).
Unfortunately, due to scheduling, I only ended up spending two hours in Friday Harbor! But the sea voyage itself was well worth the time and cost.
