Asheville Police Discuss Murder Suspect's Crimin

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Asheville police say they are very familiar with 36-year-old Robert Jason Owens, who is charged with the murder of a missing couple.
News 13 has covered several stories involving Owens over the years, including a high-profile missing persons case in 2000.
Even before that missing persons case, Owens' criminal history dates back to 1999 when he got his first DWI. And then in 2002, Asheville police had a close call with Owens.
"He was involved in a high-speed chase with APD where he shot at officers during the chase," Sgt. Dave Romick said.
In that case, Asheville police say Owens was also driving drunk, leaving him with charges like reckless driving and assault on a police officer.
"He has narcotics charges and most recently been charged with two counts of first degree murder and murder of an unborn child," Sgt. Romick said.
That murder case brings us to today. But even before 2002, Owens was tied to a missing persons case in 2000 involving the disappearance of a Buncombe County teen, Zebb Quinn.
The same property being searched Tuesday for a murder investigation is the one a search warrant was served on in 2001. Then six years later, officials were back out at the home of Jason Owens.
Now 15 years later, Asheville police say Owens is still a person of interest in that case.
"The recent developments with the arrest of the primary person of interest in the Zebb Quinn case certainly has new meaning to the investigators working on that case," Sgt. Romick said.
Quinn would be in his 30s now, and his family is following the current murder case in court.
"Just because I really do want him to just have to look at me and know that we're here and we're not going away," Brandi said, Zebb's older sister said.
Those family members of Zebb Quinn also said they are not surprised by what Owens is accused of now.
