Which weighs worse: tax evasion
Which weighs worse: tax evasion or reporting this crime?
When is it okay to report others about their wrongdoing and when is it petty and stuffy? Does it depend on the wrongdoing or on who screwed it up?
Even at school we learn that "sneaking" is antisocial. But is that true in any case?
Isn't it much more anti-social to withhold taxes from the general public? Or are the reporting portals of the tax offices rather incitement to denouncing and create a bad climate in the population? And what about apps that we can use to report parking offenders to the public order office? Are citizens who make use of it self-righteous “auxiliary sheriffs” or particularly social fellow citizens? And what about bigger grievances - like the meat scandals or the diesel affair?
When is reporting wrongdoing a good act and when is it a bad act? And in which cases do these people appear as heroes or as informers?
For the "Engel asks" series, Philipp Engel seeks out people who have been celebrated by some for their deed and pilloried by others. What was the reason why they went public with their knowledge and what were the consequences?
