In this video, I show you how I replaced an old pedestal sump pump with a new one. I had the old pump in for over a decade with no issues. With the recent warm weather, we have experienced a rapid melt and unfortunately, the pump did not seem able to keep up with the inflow of water. The basin was filling up in about a minute and the pump flow rate had slowed substantially...so it was taking about 2 minutes to lower the water line.

Over the last couple weeks, I kept the water out by going down every hour to pump out the water. Obviously, it was time to replace it.

You don't need many tools to swap the pumps however you may need some new piping and a few additional plumbing pieces (check valve & a flexible connector)

Tools needed - Flathead screwdriver, vice grips, and a saw for cutting the PVC pipe

Choosing a brand:
The old pump was a Flotec and i had no issues with it for over 11 years. I couldn't locate a local retailer that carried the model I wanted so I decided to go with a Burcam pump. It is important to me to support US & Canadian companies. There are lots of good reviews on Burcam pumps and i have had it installed now about 2 weeks. It has been able to handle the melt so far. I'll update in the comments if that changes ;)
