El Kantara is a small, quiet and peaceful village of about 10,000 inhabitants located in the city of Biskra, in the southwest of Algeria. It is built at the foot of an imposing wall offering the visitor an exceptional range of attractions in a beautiful natural setting.
The imposing mountains dominate the landscape from above with its dazzling gorges that announce the fairy tale of this city from afar. By crossing these spectacular cliffs, visitors remain amazed in front of the vast palm grove which constitutes a magnificent green carpet paring the entire panorama. In the midst of this admirable natural picture flows a river silently and gently at the bottom of the mountains and across the palm grove.
In Roman times, it was an urban center known as “Calceus Herculis”. Historians say it was the Romans who had opened a passage through the mountains and built the famous bridge to facilitate the movement of people and goods.
القنطرة هي قرية و واحة صغيرة و هادئة يسكنها حوالي 10.000 نسمة. تقع في شمال ولاية بسكرة والتي تبعد عنها ب54 كم. هي مدينة صغيرة هادئة قليلة السكان. تعتبر همزة وصل بين الشمال وجنوب وسط الشرق الجزائري وهي تجمع بين طبيعتي الصحراء والتل في مناخها وطابعها الجغرافي. تم بناؤها على سفح جدار فخم يقدم للزائر مجموعة استثنائية من أماكن الجذب في بيئة طبيعية جميلة.
الجبال تهيمن على المناظر الطبيعية من فوق مع الوديان المبهرة التي تعلن قصة جميلة لهذه المدينة من بعيد. عند عبور هذه المنحدرات المذهلة ، يظل الزائرون مندهشين أمام بساتين النخيل الواسعة التي تشكل سجادة خضراء رائعة. في وسط هذه الصورة الطبيعية المثيرة للإعجاب يتدفق نهر بصمت وبرفق في الجزء السفلي من الجبال وعبر بستان النخيل.
في العصر الروماني ، كان هنالك مركزًا حضريًا يعرف باسم "Calceus Herculis". يقول المؤرخون إن الرومان هم الذين فتحوا ممرًا عبر الجبال وبنوا الجسر الشهير لتسهيل حركة الأشخاص والبضائع.
