RAAF Base Tindal transition to F-35A Lightning II

Wing Commander Leon Cossins is the Commanding Officer of No. 75 Squadron, based in RAAF Base Tindal. No. 75 Squadron was the last of our units to operate the F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet, with WGCDR Cossins conducting the final flight of the Classic Hornet in Australia earlier this month.

With the retirement of the Classic Hornet, the transition to the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II is continuing in RAAF Base Tindal.  Four F-35A Lightning II aircraft have touched down there after the base was certified ready for F-35A operations. The F-35A, which will be permanently based in the Northern Territory has now replaced the F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet that was operated by No. 75 Squadron for 33 years.
