• Released in the US on August 23, 1967 by Reprise, reached #5 on the Billboard 200. The album remained on the charts for 106 weeks. Recorded over a five-month period from late October 1966 through early April 1967. Sold over a million copies in US in its first 7 months.
• Rolling Stone ranked it #15 on their 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time list Ranked #3 as best debut albums of all-time
• Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time – "Purple Haze" (No. 17), "Foxy Lady" (No. 153), "Hey Joe" (No. 201), and "The Wind Cries Mary" (No. 379).

1. Purple Haze – number 17 on the Rolling Stones "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list, second single – #65 on US, #3 on UK charts, inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and is included on lists of the greatest guitar songs, including at number two by Rolling Stone and number one by Q magazine.

2. Manic Depression –  It's a story about a cat wishing he could make love to music instead of the same old everyday woman and the frustration that joy can only be felt while the music is played.

3. Hey Joe -  No. 201 on Rolling Stone magazine's The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Written in 1962 by Billy Roberts (only track on album not written by Jimi).

4. Love or Confusion –  Another song noting the duality of Jimi’s thoughts. He doesn’t know if he is in love, or it this relationship is harmful to him.

5. May This Be Love – A soft ballad that demonstrates Hendrix's ability to write thoughtful lyrics and subtle melodies.

6. I Don’t Live Today – The song's tribal rhythms served as a platform for Hendrix's innovative guitar feedback improvisations.

7. The Wind Cries Mary – Rolling Stone ranked it #379 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time,

8. Fire - Despite its sexual overtones, the song had an innocuous origin. Noel Redding, bass player for the Experience, invited Hendrix to his mother's house on a cold New Year's Eve in England, after a performance.

9. Third Stone from the Sun – mostly instrumental, incorporates several musical approaches, including jazz and psychedelic rock, with brief spoken passages.

10. Foxey Lady – Rolling Stone magazine placed the song at number 153 on its list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". peaked at number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in US.

11. Are You Experienced? - The song is largely based on one chord and has a drone-like quality reminiscent of Indian classical music.
