People with long-term type 2 diabetes have double the risk of developing pancreatic cancer as the average person. But did you know that a new diagnosis of diabetes, especially in someone over age 50, can be a symptom of pancreatic cancer? Join us for our webinar to learn more about the connection between these two diseases, and what to look for as a patient or a healthcare provider.

Our Lunch and Learn webinar Pancreatic Cancer and Diabetes features experts including nurse practitioner Dr. Carolyn Lewis Moore, and diabetes educator and nurse Coletha Riley. The discussion will be moderated by health advocate Tonja Myles.

About 62,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year in the U.S., and the rate of occurrence is slightly higher in Black Americans than any other race. The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is about 11 percent, in part because the disease is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. This is because tumors are not found on a physical exam and the symptoms mimic many other more common conditions.

By understanding the relationship between pancreatic cancer and diabetes, and learning to recognize pancreatic cancer symptoms, health care professionals can increase a patient’s chance of an earlier diagnosis, which leads to more treatment options and a better survival rate.
