This is a short selection from one of my Introduction to Philosophy classes taught at Marist College, a session which was focused on the Self-Consciousness section of G.W.F Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, specifically on the "Master-Slave Dialectic". This is a bit of an introductory-level lecture, intended to help students who have no background in philosophy better understand this rather difficult text.

You can find the full lecture this short is taken from here - Georg W.F. Hegel, Self-Consciousness ...

In this short bit which is from towards the end of the lecture, I discuss how in the conditions that the slave has been set in, development of consciousness takes place on the part of the slave but not on the part of the master, which ends up with the slave still stuck within their relationship of dominance but having developed further as a human being.
