Basic Ribbon Embroidery Flowers,Tips & Stitches for Beginners
RIBBON (“for Ribbon Embroidery”)
Satin ribbon is the best for beginner – the first time you make these stitches you are going to rip a lot of the ribbons apart – better the low-cost satin ribbon than silk ribbon.
RIBBON SIZE
Usually used widths are 2mm (1/16″), 4mm (1/8″), and 7mm (1/4″) (4mm is the most used)
NEEDLES FOR RIBBON EMBROIDERY
There are three chenille needle sizes that are commonly used in ribbon embroidery:
*Size 24 is for 2mm wide silk ribbon
*Size 18 is perfect for 4mm and 7mm wide silk ribbon
*Size 13 is for 13mm wide ribbon
FABRICS FOR RIBBON EMBROIDERY
Pretty much any fabric that you can get a needle and the ribbon through will work for ribbon embroidery; however, most stitches recommend working with natural fibers.
