Oliver Cromwell was the Lord Protector following the execution of King Charles I. He famously defeated Charles during the English Civil War, and during the King's trial he was the influence behind ordering the execution of the English and Scottish King. It was the first and only time a monarch of the countries had been accused and found guilty of treason against his own people, and then subsequently executed in London publicly before his subjects. However Cromwell did not escape justice all together.

After the monarchy was restored and Charles II (Eldest surviving son of Charles I) came onto the throne, Cromwell was subject to a posthumous execution in the Regicides. Those men who were involved in the execution of the previous king were sentenced to death, and overall 104 men were sentenced to execution, but over 20 of these including Cromwell had already passed away during this time. Because of this, Cromwell's body was exhumed from Westminster Abbey where it had been laid to rest.

It was then paraded through the streets of London, before it was taken to Tyburn where it was hanged in chains. The decomposing remains of Cromwell must have shocked onlookers, and after a few hours it was taken down before his remains were beheaded and his head placed on a spike. Speculation and much furore then arose about the whereabouts of Cromwell's Head and Body, and today speculation still occurs about this.

So join us today as we look at, 'The EXHUMATION Of Oliver Cromwell - The King Killer.'
