For testing, we’ll take a USB memory stick and formatted it to make sure that there was nothing left on it. Later, we copied few music, images and videos on it.
Next, we deleted all the file permanently, by using Shift + Delete keys. Now, all our files are gone and without using any data recovery software these files are lost forever.

Windows file recovery is an official tool for recovering deleted files from hard disks, SD cards, USB drives, and other storage media. It can recover document and media files as well. How you can recover your data using Windows File Recovery? Basically, just open Windows File Recovery, and the basic command somewhat looks like this “winfr source-drive: destination-drive: /switches”. Specify the drive you want to search for the deleted file, the destination you want to save it to, and the various switches that control what the tool searches for and how it searches.
Now, the actual command for recovery would look something like this, “winfr G: D: /n *.docx”. G is my source drive and D is my destination drive where I want my files to be stored. “/n” is for the NTFS partition type. And lastly, “.docx” is for word document files. You can also search for mp3, png, ppt, pdf files as well but you’ll have to specify them, which makes it a really complicated way of recovering files. Okay now, press the Y button to move forward. Now the program will scan your drive for your specified file type and later it’ll recover your files.
To view the recovered files, press Y on your keyboard. Here you can see we have successfully recovered our document word file. To recover the other files, you’ll again have to enter the command and also enter the extension of the file. This is something which is not user friendly and also from our own experience the success rate is also not that high.
