How to set up the best bicycle cleat position for comfort and injury prevention as part of bike fitting: Using a shimano Look cleat on a road bike, spd or spd-sl on a mountain bike or mtb cleat on a trail bike or bmx, we demonstrate how to set up the cleat position to increase comfort and prevent stress or injury to the knee while cycling and increase performance for the cyclist. The bike fore aft cleat placement is important in placing the pedal spindle directly under the head of the metatarsals of the foot (ball of the foot). If the cleat is to far forward, pain and discomfort will occur in the toes when cycling. If the cleat is to far back, one will experience foot pain under the sole of the foot while you cycle. How the feet are pointed on the pedals should reflect a normal relaxed stance when off the bicycle. If the toe is pointed inward or outward to far, one will create stress on the knee resulting in knee pain and possible injury. We show you tips on how to turn the cleat to get the toe pointed in a comfortable position for cycling.

With the cleat position properly on the bike shoe, you're ready to ride. Fine tune the position if you experience any discomfort and your ready to cycle.
