Kyle Larson was zeroed in on his first ever qualifying run for an Indy 500 on Saturday when suddenly his engine switched off. He kept his cool, got the car back to the pits, his Hendrick-McLaren team took a couple hours to sort out the problem, then the NASCAR star went out and stood on it, turning in a 4-lap average 232.563 mph run to wind up 6th at that time and very much in play for making the top 12 and being part of the pole shoot-out Sunday for the 108th race. He's trying to do the daily double on May 26, run the 500 in the afternoon and the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 that night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. And he'll be doing a daily double of sorts Sunday, taking part in the pole shootout then helicoptering/jetting off to North Wilkesboro, N.C., for the NASCAR All-Star race Sunday night.
