Baharestan Square was called Negarestan Square until the end of Reza Shah's reign, which was named after Negarestan Garden and Palace. The Negarestan complex was located in the north of the square and was built by order of Fath Ali Shah Qajar as the king's summer house outside the city of Tehran at that time.
Baharestan Square has been the site of important historical events in the contemporary history of Iran. The most important of these events were the construction of the building of the first Iranian legislature during the constitutional period in this square, the assassination of Mirza Ali Asghar Khan Atabak while leaving the parliament, the assassination of Hassan Ali Mansour and the closing of the parliament by Cossacks under Russian Liakhov. There is also a march of opponents of Mossadegh's government in this square.

Jomhuri Avenue is a street in the centre of Tehran, Iran. It has shops for the purchase of electronic equipment. Jomhuri is officially known as Jomhuri Islami Avenue which means Islamic republic. It is home to Tehran's biggest mobile phone shopping centre, Alaeddin (known as Bazaar-e Alaeddin). It is also a place where Tehran youngsters hang out during the evening.

Bagh Sepahsalar was the name of one of the old gardens of Tehran during the Qajar period, which was located in the area of Baharestan Square. At present, Bagh-e-Sepahsalar Street (Saf Street) remains.
This garden belonged to Mirza Hussein Khan Sepahsalar Qazvini, Prime Minister Nasser al-Din Shah.
Bagh Sepahsalar Street is a bag and shoe sales center in Tehran. This street became a sidewalk in 2006.
