How To Make A Bow Drill Spindle And Fireboard

Choose any wood that's highly degraded, dry, and big enough to whittle out an 8" spindle by 3/4" diameter and a fireboard that's at least 1" wide and at least 3/8" thick. With your knife straighten all sides. I like to square the spindle as I whittle it down to 3/4" because I can sight down the straight lines to keep everything symmetrical. From there, it's easy to take it to round then whittle the ends. See how simple and easy it is to make a fireboard is also.
