Talar Dome
•Talar dome is 2.5 mm wide anteriorly.
•Surface is 60% cartilage.
•There is no muscle attachment to the talus.
Blood supply of the talus
•Artery of the sinus tarsi
•Anastomosis between the tarsal canal and the artery of the sinus tarsi.
•Branches of the body of the talus
•Posterior tibial artery
•Deltoid branch of the artery of the tarsal canal
•Artery of the tarsal canal
•Superomedial arteries to the neck and head.
Talus fractures are considered to be difficult injuries of the foot and ankle trauma. Interruption of the blood supply causes death of the bone and nonunion.
