This talk, "𝗞𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗺𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗡𝟯.𝟲𝟱" was given by Sylvia Bay at the invitation of KL Dhamma Friends via zoom meeting on 24 May 2020.
𝗞𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗺𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗡𝟯.𝟲𝟱 (more commonly known as Kalama Sutta) is often partially extracted and quoted, leading to the misunderstanding that the Sutta is only about Buddhist epistemology (theory of truth).
Sylvia Bay unfolds the Sutta in full, in order to appreciate Buddha's brilliance of what he had actually expounded, how he expounded to a perplaxed audience filled with doubts to acceptance, how to lead a noble life and have comfort regardless whether one believes in rebirth. This talk also takes us through how as lay people, we can reflect, apply and practice in daily life for ours and others' happiness and welfare.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿
Sis Sylvia Bay has dedicated herself to the study and practice of the Buddha's teachings since 1992.
She holds a BA (Hons) in Buddhist Studies from the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka, and was a lecturer with her alma mater. She also has a Masters in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced Studies. Since 2001, Sis Sylvia has been a regular speaker on Buddhist doctrines and their practical applications at local and regional Buddhist organisations. In 2013, she published her first book “Between The Lines: An Analytical Appreciation of The Buddha’s Life”. She is now working on another book titled "Towards The Light: the Buddha's Guide to a Heavenly Rebirth".
