Knot tying video tutorial. Learn how to make a Chinese crown loop (good luck) knot. Easy step by step instructions for tying a Chinese crown loop knot in this simple guide.

The Chinese crown loop comes from the art of Chinese knotting and goes under various names, including: Friendship knot loop, Chinese good luck knot, square knot and shamrock knot. It is found in The Ashley Book of Knots (ABoK) as knots #808 and #1066. Ashley describes it as the most common of the Chinese lanyard knots.

Uses:
Used to decorate tool and knife lanyards. Used as the foundation knot of various macramé patterns. Scouts sometimes tie this knot as an ornamental knot in their scarves. Could be used as a functional secure loop, however it has a tendency to jam and there are other loops easier to tie.

Advantages:
Is attractive, popular and is relatively easy to tie.
