Dubai has unveiled the ‘Dubai Green Spine’ project, transforming Sheikh Zayed Road (E311) into a 64-kilometer-long sustainable corridor. Developed by URB and EPIC Lab, this initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aiming to revolutionize urban mobility and elevate environmental standards.
Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB, highlights that the project is about making cities more livable and human-centric. Key features include 100% solar-powered trams supported by a 300-megawatt solar energy system, extensive green spaces, and pedestrian and cycling paths to reduce car dependency. Mixed-use developments will integrate residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, boosting urban connectivity.
At the heart of the project are green spaces designed to enhance community and biodiversity. These areas, with diverse habitats, aim to beautify the urban landscape while promoting environmental health and community well-being. The pedestrian and cycling paths further enhance walkability, encouraging a shift away from automobile dependence.
