Using a Carolina Skiff J16 as a project boat, Dan walks us through the process of applying gelcoat to the hull. After completing a bunch of small fiberglass repairs, the team wanted to change the color and decided to apply gelcoat with wax for a glossy finish.

To get started, the first step was to lightly sand with 80 grit and then wipe down the hull with acetone. With the prep work done, the team rolled on three thin coats of gelcoat without waiting for it to dry in between coats. By waiting for a non-windy day and taking their time, they were able to achieve a beautiful, even finish.
