There are over a dozen species of white woods known worldwide. They inhabit Europe and Asia exclusively.

Species of the Leptidea genus are not particularly large butterflies and often look very similar to each other. In Central Europe, they undergo two or three generations, spanning from late April to late September. In Poland, they are most commonly observed in May and July, favoring forested areas.

These butterflies fly slowly and low. As adults, they feed on flowers and damp soil. The most common caterpillar host plants include:
- some species of clover (Trifolium),
- purple crown vetch (Securigera varia),
- vetchlings (Lathyrus), among others yellow pea (Lathyrus pratensis),
- vetches (Vicia), above all bird vetch (Vicia cracca),
- bird's-foot trefoils (Lotus).

In the video you can observe a female laying an egg. The egg exhibits typical characteristics of butterfly eggs from the Pieridae family.
