Why We Still LOVE Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 has seen one of the fastest falls from grace in gaming history, from Sony's most purchased game of all time to barely being able to keep 10k players in game after a major update.
With problem after problem and nerf after nerf because of an out of touch and understaffed development team, empty promises and a 6 week vacation dragging this game down, WE STILL PLAY.  Why?
What is it about Helldivers 2 that gets us to log in day after day? Will Space Marines 2 finally give us a worthy alternative?
