With normal smile, 75% of the length of the upper front teeth should appear, when the gum appears, it is called a gingival smile or gummy smile, and it has several reasons:
- Excessive downward growth in the upper jaw
- Inferior rotation at the level of the upper jaw
- Excessive growth of the gums, which leads to excessive coverage of the front teeth
- Congenital shortness of the upper lip, which may be a result of weakness in the circular muscles of the mouth
- Combination of more than one of previous reasons.

The treatment varies according to the cause of the problem, the most aggressive is surgery to impact the upper jaw or modify its rotation, gum cutting or lip exercises, and lip botox is a temporary solution.

With the use of orthodontic mini implants, it is possible to take advantage of the jaw bone as an anchorage for pulling the upper teeth up, and therefore it is possible in many cases to avoid jaw surgery.
60 g is enough to provide intrusive force to the upper incisors to overcome the gummy smile.
We use the mini screw or TADS (temporary anchorage device) as an anchorage to move one or group of teeth without using other teeth to pull them

Very little of anesthesia to make the insertion of the mini implant painless to the gum, the bone itself is insensitive because it doesn't contain nerve ending

Usually the insertion takes less than 1 minute, it is painless during or after the insertion ..even no blood

Some patients could feel some light pressure for couple of days

We use the mini screw or TADS (temporary anchorage device) as an anchorage to move one or group of teeth without using other teeth to pull them
