Conceptual Teaching is the foundation on the inquiry - based approach the PYP offers!
The key concepts are universal ideas which could be inquired in depth when you ask specific questions about various aspects of them.

Below you will find the key concepts and a model question that you can ask in order to learn more about each one of them:

FORM: What is it? How does it look like?
FUNCTION: How does it work?
CAUSATION: Why is it this way? Why does it work this way?
CONNECTION: With what is/can be connected?
PERSPECTIVE: How do people see it? How differently others see it?
RESPONSIBILITY: How can I be responsible towards it? What are my responsibilities regarding this matter?

By using such questions, teachers ask open-ended questions to students to extract a lot of information regarding their prior-knowledge, experiences, preferences and opinions on any topic/matter. Teachers should train their students ask questions by using the key concepts (and the questions) in order to become autonomous learners, inquirers of knowledge.

The key concepts are the keys to discover knowledge; the way teachers and students discover information for a specific topic/issue. At the same time, students enhance their skills as individuals, as researchers, as social and thinking beings!
