On August 29th, 2023, Carolyn Ball presented "How Local Government Works."
What can your local government do and how does it work?
Our local governments have a surprising amount of responsibility. A week doesn’t go by when the local paper doesn’t cover a local controversy on the Island. What influence do you have on what happens in your community? What role does the town manager and selectboard/town council play? Why does it take so much time to make decisions? Carolyn will present the basics and in an interactive discussion break down the steps to decision-making at the local level and how you can become more involved.
Carolyn Ball, Ph.D. is a professor at University of Southern Maine, Muskie School of Public Service where she teaches Managing Cities Towns and Counties. She is the current chair of the SWH Select Board.
