All the way up from
All the way up from Bairro Alto streets, one reaches Principe Real. A considered posh residential area, on the top of one of the seven hills were Lisbon lays, with an amazing view from the rest of the city.
With a great central park, this area has an easy connection to the transportation system, having several buses around and the metro (Rato metro station) at a walking distance.
North of Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcantara is the district of Principe Real, essentially an extention of Bairro Alto, with a pleasant square and shady garden.
The Largo do Rato is a central and historical area of Lisbon within walking distance of “Estrela”, “Principe Real” and “Amoreiras” areas, where several main streets crossed their ways running either north-south and east-west.
Since 1948 this area is designated as “Largo do Rato”. The name's history dates back to the seventeenth century when Luís Gomes de Sá e Menezes, whose nickname was “Rato” (”Mouse”) gave his nickname to a convent and the street layout to the site where there were located.
