I know that it is designed to be used to make it look like someone is home when they aren't - and it achieves this effect nicely with 10 program modes including a random effect. That isn't how I use mine however - I got this to control the light on my fish aquarium, as I wanted the light to come on every morning and turn off every night without having to remember to do this.

It is super easy to set up - just set the current day and time, then go into the "timer mode" and set up to 10 different programs of when you want the power to turn on and off.
