Where is the thalamus?

A bit of neuroanatomy as I've been talking a bit about the thalamus recently. I'm an anatomist and not a neuroscientist, so here's a brief thing about what the thalamus does and where you should be able to find it in the head. Let's find it on models and MRI radiographs.
