The Nimzowitsch Defense is one
The Nimzowitsch Defense is one of the most underrated chess openings for black against e4. It gives a strong combination of chess opening theory, chess opening principles, and chess opening moves. Stockfish often likes the positions which come out of the Nimzowitsch Defense, and on top of all this, it is rare! This is important because if you play the Nimzowitsch Defense, you will have the advantage in terms of preparation. Every Nimzowitsch Defense game you play, you will gain more knowledge and understanding of the moves, tricks, traps, ideas, principles, theory, lines, and variations.
Your opponent, however, has probably not studied for the Nimzowitsch Defense much. E4 players have so many chess openings they need to study up on including the French Defense, Petrov's Defense, Pirc Defense, Scandinavian Defense, Caro-Kann Defense, Sicilian Defense, and more! Because of this, the e4 chess opening player doesn't often spend much time (if any at all) studying for the Nimzowitsch Defense. I only mention all this because I think it helps the Nimzowitsch Defense in it's effectiveness. Now, this is NOT one of those chess openings where we simply hope the opponent "messes up, and if they don't, well we are losing." This is a strong chess opening for black against e4 even if the opponent is familiar with it. However, it only becomes more effective when the e4 player doesn't have much of an understanding concerning the types of middlegame chess positions that can be reached. And this only helps us!
If you do play the Nimzowitsch Defense, you will run into the tough choice of playing either the Scandinavian Variation or Kennedy Variation, and on this chess channel we will cover both!
