Let's solve a few triangle problems using the basic proportionality theorem (sometimes called the triangle proportionality theorem) and its converse! With these results, we can determine if a particular segment intersecting a triangle is parallel to a side of the triangle, and we can find some missing segment lengths! Remember that by the basic proportionality theorem, a line that intersects two sides of a triangle and is parallel to the third side must cut the two sides in the same ratio.
