In today's farm vlog, we are harvesting the pinkeye purple hull peas we planted a couple months ago. Purple hull peas are by far our favorite vegetable to grow & to eat in the garden. The purple hull pea is a staple in the south & goes best with a fresh onion & hot cornbread!
After harvesting the pinkeye purple hulls, we are going to get to use my grandfather's antique pea sheller. This vintage pea sheller makes life so much easier & the way it works is that it has an electric motor that turns a belt, & that turns a pulley, & that turns 2 rollers which the peas go through, & it is just enough pressure to pop the pea out, without smashing them.
I love that this was handbuilt for my grandfather 75 years ago, and now it has been passed down to me & my family to use, & I can then pass it down to MaryCarl, our daughter when it is time.
