Logic Masters India (LMI) conducted Indian Sudoku Championship 2023 at Mumbai in May-2022. After Playoff Round-1, Sudoku Mahabharat (SM-2023) Playoff Round-2 was held among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rankers of Sudoku Mahabharat-2023 namely Harsh Poddar, Aashay Patil and Dhruvarajsinh Puwar to select/ decide the  final 1st-3rd places of Sudoku Mahabharat (SM-2023). The Playoff was won by Aashay Patil as can be seen in the video taken of said few memorable moments.

There were 3 (classic, killer and XV) no of 9x9 size grid puzzle sudokus given during the said playoff-2 challenge.

Classic Sudoku Rules: Use a digit from 1 to 9 to fill into each empty cell so that digits (1-9) do not repeat in any row, column or outlined 3x3 box/ region of the given sudoku grid.

Killer Sudoku Rules: Classic Sudoku rules apply. Additionally, the small number mentioned in the top left corner of a dotted cage must be equal to the sum of the digits in the cage. It’s to be noted that the digits within a cage can not repeat.

XV Sudoku Rule: Classic Sudoku rules apply. Additionally, if the sum of digits in adjacent/ neighbouring cells is 10 then roman numeral ‘X’ is marked between them and if the sum of digits in adjacent/ neighbouring cells is 5 then roman numeral ‘V’ is marked between them. All possible ‘X’ and ‘V’ are definitely marked in a sudoku.



All three participants were close enough initially during the said Playoff-2 round. Finally, Aashay Patil completed all the 3 sudokus at fastest Speed and won the said round. Heartiest congratulations to all. ❤️👍🏻🥇

General Playoff Rules: The competitors will begin the playoff round with a staggered start based on the total number of points earned in the qualifying previous rounds. The general Playoff rules are as follows:

Each match will have three players, who will compete against each other on two puzzles to see who can solve it in the fastest amount of time.

The initial rank is determined by the player’s performance in the regular competition.  A rank with a smaller number is considered better (for example, 4th rank is better than 5th rank), and a rank with a larger number is considered worse.

Each playoff round matches some players based on their rank, who then compete against each other on a few sudokus to see who can solve in the fastest amount of time.  Player rank is swapped based on the performance.

Other Important playoff round Rules during the selection process:

When a competitor completes a sudoku, s/he can indicate to a proctor that s/he is done. The entire grid will then be judged over the next minute.

After one minute, if the puzzle is correct, the proctor will indicate the competitor can begin the next puzzle.

If the puzzle is incorrect, the proctor will return the incorrect puzzle to the competitor but will make no indication of where any mistake is in that grid. The competitor can resubmit a returned sudoku at any time, but another full one minute grading process will follow.
