The Statue of Liberty was created in 1886 with the participation of Gustave Eiffel, who designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi created Lady Liberty in the image of the Roman goddess Libertas. The statue is covered in a record-breaking thin layer of bronze - about the depth of two pennies pressed together. Interestingly, for the first 35 years after its creation, the Statue of Liberty was a beautiful brown, but weather, time, and the waters of the Hudson turned the bronze into the beautiful sea green we know today.
