If you’ve never used a Linux-based operating system, Ubuntu is a great entry-level Linux distribution that’s user-friendly for beginners, especially on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-31. In the 31st Episode of The Rugged Rundown, TJ will explain how to properly install Linux Ubuntu from a bootable USB drive.

TJ, one of the head technicians here at Bob Johnson's computer stuff, does a walkthrough on installing Ubuntu Linux on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-31. The first step is to insert the installation media, whether that is a media disk or a USB drive. Following the insertion of the media, you are going to turn on the Toughbook and when the Panasonic splash screen comes up, press F2. This will get you into the BIOS. When you are in the BIO, navigate with the arrow keys to the last page in the BIOS that is labeled "exit". Then, scroll down to where it says "boot override" and select the installation media that the Ubuntu install is on. Next, there will be a "choose language" screen and an install Ubuntu window. Afterward, there will be a screen that allows you to select the best layout for you. Now, it will give you the option to either install normally with all the prepackaged software, or you could install a minimal version. This next step will depend on your Toughbook's situation because depending on whether you are loading Ubuntu on a clean disk or a Toughbook with data on it, your next few options may differ. This tutorial is only for a single boot. For now, just erase the disk and install the Ubuntu are the choices you would want to select for single booting. After this, you want to use the interactive map to enter your location. Then, you are given the option to name your operating system and then make a username and password. Finally, just let the installation run and then you will get a prompt telling you to remove the installation media and press enter. You have successfully installed Ubuntu 20.04 on your Panasonic Toughbook CF-31.
