Located in a vast and isolated Russian-Siberian forest the size of Germany. The nearest human neighbors hours away.
Named: "Penal Colony № 56", also known by its nickname: "Black Eagle". It was a maximum-security ("Supermax") prison operated by the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for convicts sentenced to life imprisonment. It was closed down in 2019.
This prison housed some of the most violent and dangerous men of Russia. Most of the inmates were convicted for multiple murders.
Since Russian Federation's 1996 placement of a moratorium on the the death penalty, people who committed extremely violent multiple murders have been receiving life sentences. In Russia a life sentence is literal, an inmate must serve their time until their death, there is no parole for "lifers".
