Barival (1813-1861) was a french composer. There is not a lot of (substantial) biographical information readily available, however I want to point to the dedicatee of this composition: Victor Hugo. This helps to bring everything in context; I read that Hugo was a good friend of Barival. Obviously she was a talented composer, as demonstrated by this beautiful Nocturne.
