The mic and cable plugs require a firm connection to resist accidental detachment.  If there is no sound from your Cloud Alpha please make sure the cable is pushed in all the way so that the gray ring is no longer visible.  The connection to the headphones is sturdier to prevent accidental unplugging, so it must be pushed in firmly when connecting.
