An UAV satellite-based communication system dedicated to safety aeronautical applications

The number of professional applications making use of unmanned aircraft vehicles  (UAVs) is continuously growing. Airspace governing bodies are facing the crucial challenge of ensuring the safety and privacy of citizens. While the drone applications require the capacity to fly at long range, in beyond radio line of sight (BRLOS) conditions,  at different altitudes on large and diverse areas. Thales Alenia Space has been working for several years on the definition of an UAV satellite-based communication system in the 5030-5091 MHz frequency band, dedicated worldwide to safety aeronautical applications, to provide safe and secure data links for UAV command and control (C2).
