The capability of the K9A2
The capability of the K9A2 Self-Propelled Howitzer is set to be showcased during Eurosatory 2022 in Paris, June 13-17.
Being jointly developed by the South Korean Agency for Defense Development and Hanwha Defense, the 155mm/52-calibre K9A2 artillery system is designed to feature a fully-automatic ammunition handling system and greater firepower with an increased rate of fire. The K9A2 will also be equipped with rubber tracks and a remote-controlled weapon station to feature enhanced mobility and survivability.
Hanwha Defense plans to propose a UK variant of the K9A2 to be manufactured through the UK supply chain for the British Army's Mobile Fires Platform, or MFP, to replace the 90s-era AS90 self-propelled gun.
To that end, the South Korean defense giant has formed "Team Thunder" in partnership with defense firms, which include Lockheed Martin UK, Leonardo, Pearson Engineering, Horstman Defence Systems, and Soucy Defense.
