ما هي مواصفات العمل الفنّي الجيد؟ هل هي التفاصيل المعقدة؟ أم طريقة استخدام الألوان لتفصيل الضوء والظلال؟ هل يجب أن تكون اللوحة نسخة طبق الأصل من مشهد تم التقاطه من واقع الحياة حتى يتم اعتبارها ذات جودة تقنية عالية؟ جواب حركة الفن الانطباعي هو "كلا"، إذ كانت هذه الحركة معنيّة بتحدّي الوضع الراهن ومخالفة القواعد والمعايير التي وضعها الفن الأكاديمي
