Just as it was announced that Fast and Furious 9 has been delayed a year and pushed back to April 10, 2020, THR is now reporting that the Fast and Furious spin-off centering on The Rock’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw has been dated for July 26, 2019, with franchise screenwriter Chris Morgan handling scripting duties.
In a report from Deadline, Universal’s Dark Universe appears to be in flux as the studio has pulled Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein from its February 14th, 2019 release date. The movie was deep into pre-production when Universal told the crew to go home as they wait for screenwriter David Koepp to refine the script. Additionally, over at The Wrap, a report came out saying Gal Gadot is Condon’s first choice if Angelina Jolie does in fact pass.
BUY OR SELL
Deadline is reporting that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is making a deal to direct Gambit over at Fox. The X-Men spinoff has been a high priority at the studio since Channing Tatum stepped up to star.
Ahead of the new trailer that is supposed to debut later today, Entertainment Weekly has released the first images from Pacific Rim Uprising. The sequel, initially developed for Guillermo del Toro to return and direct, is now helmed by Daredevil Season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.
Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Roman J. Israel, Esq.; the new film from Nightcrawler director Dan Gilory that stars Denzel Washington. Washington plays the title character, a struggling lawyer whose lifelong crusade for social justice comes crashing down when his partner suffers a heart attack and he’s forced to go work for George (Colin Farrell), a high-priced attorney at a powerful firm.
