Love using the fun GIF stickers on your Instagram stories, TikToks, and elsewhere on social media? Guess what, you can design your own GIFs and get them into those sticker search menus too! Watch this video to learn how!
Let’s begin with an overview of the process. There are 5 steps you’ll need to take.
1. Create your GIFs
2. Create a GIPHY account
3. Upload your GIFs to GIPHY
4. Apply for a GIPHY artist or brand account & wait to get approved
5. Find your GIF stickers and use them!

Note that in order for your GIFs to be uploaded and used as stickers, they will need to have a transparent background.
Now, sign up for a GIPHY account if you haven’t already. Go to giphy.com/join. You can sign up with your Facebook account, or with your email address. Type in your email, desired username, and a password.
Now, you’ll need to upload your own GIF sticker designs. Click Upload and import the image file you’d like to use. Then, type in relevant tags for your sticker. You should include your brand name, along with tags indicating what is shown in the GIF, the action being taken, an emotion that is conveyed by it, or whatever else you think is relevant. Note that GIFs must be appropriate for all audiences to be approved and added to Instagram’s sticker library. In order to apply for an artist or brand account, you’ll need to have uploaded a minimum of 5 GIFs, so continue uploading your other designs.
Once you’ve uploaded at least 5 GIFs to your GIPHY page, you can apply for an official artist or brand account, depending on which is appropriate for you. To do this, go to giphy.com/apply. Fill in the required information and submit your application to GIPHY. You’ll receive an email confirming that they’ve received your application. Within a few days you should get another email letting you know whether your application has been approved. Once you’ve been approved, your GIFs will be processed and begin to appear in GIF sticker menus on Instagram, TikTok, and more.
That’s all it takes to get your GIFs into Instagram’s sticker menu.
