UKRAINIAN soldiers patrol the recaptured territory in the northeast near Kyiv, as burnt out tanks and military vehicles line the roads of the war-torn region.
Several wrecked Russian tanks lay scattered throughout the area next to destroyed buildings and the ruins of a church. The Ukrainian soldiers on patrol paused to bury the charred remains of a dead combatant.
Although Ukrainian forces have regained control over some areas in the Kyiv region, the fighting there was ongoing, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday.
The more than month-long invasion, the biggest of a Western nation since World War Two, has seen over 3.8 million people flee abroad, left thousands dead or injured, and brought the isolation of Russia's economy.
