4000 Sqft. Hybrid Shipping Container Home in Dunnellon, Florida. In this video, we bring you 4000 sqft. Hybrid Container Home in Dunnellon, Florida, built using 7 Shipping Containers. This is a unique one of kind shipping container home nestled on 2 acres of land. This house belongs to a young couple who wanted to build their dream home at an affordable cost. The project was designed and built by their father Architect Guil Bombonato. The house is built from seven 9x8x40ft. shipping containers to create 4000 sqft of habitable space distributed on two stories. The containers sit on a concrete slab foundation, but according to the client, the foundation type may have been overkill so, a simpler foundation would have been appropriate. The shipping containers are arranged in a crisscross stack, defining a large space with some walls infilled using conventional stud framing. There are 2 pairs of containers set apart on the ground level with an additional container at the back in a T- shaped layout. On the first floor level, two containers are set apart and placed across the two pairs below. The containers are not only accommodating some habitable spaces but also acting as structural elements to hold the traditional building material add-ons. The infill spaces between the containers are covered with steel, gabled roof. Watch this video here: 4000 Sqft. Hybrid Shipping Container ....  From inside the house is finished just like any other house. The interior space is partitioned with timber framing throughout and covered in drywall like a regular home. To enhance the thermal performance of the house, the container walls are insulated with spray foam. The new steel roofs are equally insulated with spray foam for thermal comfort. The infill space above the containers on the first story is fitted with full height glazing and covered with a gable steel roof to create a double volume living space. The infill space on sides of the space between the seventh container in the “T’ position is framed out and covered with plywood to create a 2 car garage. The infill space between the four containers on the front is framed out to create a spacious entrance porch to the house.
