The Citizenship Amendment Act has ignited a political storm in India, with the BJP facing both praise and criticism. While refugees have shown support for the Act, opposition parties accuse the BJP of using it as an election strategy ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Home Minister Amit Shah, however, refutes these claims, accusing Owaisi and Congress of vote bank politics. Mamata Banerjee of TMC and Owaisi of AIMIM are among the first to launch attacks against the Centre, accusing the Modi government of targeting Muslim minorities. Chief Ministers of non-BJP ruled states, including Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, have voiced their refusal to implement the Act in their states.
