Pakhawaj is one of the oldest musical instruments in India. The term Pakhawaj is coined by joining two words - paksha (meaning side) and vadya (meaning musical instrument). This is one instrument that finds mentions in the mythologies and primitive paintings, wall carvings in temples, and even in the excavated remains of Mohenjodaro.
Pakhawaj has survived the test of time and witnessed the evolution of the musical landscape of India. At present, it is an integral part of the classical and folk music traditions of India.
