Mount Airy Birds: Screech Owl

Did you know screech owls are cavity nesters? You can build screech owl boxes to hang on your property for these raptors to build a nest inside. Screech owls are just one of many raptors that call Mount Airy home.

As a part of the Town's year long celebration of avian awareness, Town staff headed to Carroll County Recreation and Parks Hashawha Environmental Center and Bear Branch Nature Center in Westminster to learn more about raptors.

This screech owl flew into a window and broke its wing. The video discusses ways residents can help birds see glass better so they do not accidentally fly into them.  

We found out a ton of neat facts about screech owls including that they do not screech. They sound like a horse whinnying.
